About / Zach Allan
Creative technology.
Meaningful experiences.
I’m a Newcastle-based creative technologist working across 3D capture, digital heritage, virtual production, and immersive experiences.

Practice & experience
From capture
to experience.
I combine technical production with a background in media and design to document places, interpret collections, and create digital experiences. My work spans the full process: capturing and processing 3D data, building real-time environments, and designing how people encounter and interact with the result.
As a Technical Officer in the University of Newcastle’s School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences, my expertise includes Unreal Engine 5 and ICVFX virtual production. Earlier roles in the Auchmuty Library MakerSpace and Special Collections developed my experience in creative technology facilitation, 3D scanning, and digitisation, including work in the GLAMx lab.
My heritage work includes photogrammetric documentation of eight endangered vernacular buildings in Tuvalu and an Unreal Engine VR recreation of Delprat Cottage. Alongside these projects, I develop cinematic environments, explore Gaussian splatting and archival image reconstruction, and design maintainable websites for community organisations.
Across these disciplines, I focus on choosing the right tools for the work and turning complex technical processes into accessible, useful outcomes.
